The Weight of Water
Dir. Kathryn Bigelow (2002).
Kathryn Bigelow's fiercely wrought time-twister is a literary mystery that weaves an ambiguous marital thriller with a more compelling Nordic tale of incest, jealousy, and murder-spinning ever more quickly between the stories until they begin to merge. Given the two-dimensional characters and the surplus of visual metaphor for their poorly expressed yet outsized passions, it might have made a great silent film. Elliott Stein will introduce.
