Sacred-steel guitarist Robert Randolph provides grand Hendrix-ian gestures in this sinfully promising band filled out by the three North Mississippi Allstars and keyboardist John Medeski (of Medeski Martin and Wood). The quintet play a knowing hybrid of electric Delta blues, the African-American gospel tradition, and outside improv-rock steeped in downtown jazz. Expect rambling generosity, raving solos, and, it being NYE, an audience eager to let its mudflaps down.
