THIS LAND IS PETE'S LAND
Folk icon Pete Seeger is responsible for some of the most rousing songs of his ownand succeedinggenerations. He penned "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" and "Turn, Turn Turn!" and helped popularize the spiritual "We Shall Overcome" as the anthem of the 1960s civil rights movement. The tireless proponent of equality and peace recently took a victory lap at the "We Are One" pre-inaugural concert for Obama, ecstatically singing pal Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" with Bruce Springsteen and grandson Tao Rodríguez-Seeger; tonight at the Arena, he'll let others fete him at Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Celebration. Springsteen, Joan Baez, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, and scores of other folkie fans will perform; proceeds benefit Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, the water preservation charity Seeger founded. Happy birthday, sir, and thank you.
