The nomadic Tuareg tribesmen, who sport robes and headscarves onstage, recorded their forthcoming album in the California desert town of Joshua Tree rather than in the politically imploding Sahara. Part trance and part provocation, the band's bluesy sound evokes its West African desert homeland through vamping electric guitars, chanted choruses, clapping hands, and djembe drums.
