Dir. Yasujiro Ozu (1957).
Ozu went for baroque in this chastely lurid family melodramareplete with abortion, suicide, adultery, and all manner of marital difficulties. Not his best movie, but fascinating for its evident (and subsequently abandoned) attempt to keep up with the frankness of Japans mid 50s new wave.
Fridays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Sept. 24. Continues through Sept. 26, 2010
