Nothing says "all-American" like eating a copious amount of meat in a short amount of time, so celebrate your Independence Day right by cheering on your favorite competitor at the 96th Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Though the 10-minute competition may be almost a century old, this year marks the first-ever Women's Championship. This division was first applauded, then disputed by many when it was revealed that the proposed grand prize of $5,000 was merely a fourth of what the male champion would receive (after an outcry from both sexes, Major League Eating eventually raised the women's purse to $20,000.) Place your bets now; crowd favorites include the four-time champion Joey "Jaws" Chesnut and the 100-pound competitive eating phenomenon Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas. As for me, I'll be in the crowd wearing my "Free Kobe" T-shirt and looking for the dancing man in the weiner suit.
