Touchez pas au Grisbi
Dir. Jacques Becker (1954). This terrific movie set the standard for French gangster flicks for a generation. Jean Gabin brings all the authority and experience of his great career to his performance as Max the Liar, an aging and weary racketeer who has made a big haul and wants to call it quits, but comes out of retirement when his best friend is kidnapped. The fine supporting cast includes the young Jeanne Moreau.
Fridays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Feb. 19. Continues through Feb. 21, 2010
