Trans Am put out a bunch of weird records in the '90s. There were synth experiments, jammy instrumentals, synth jams, and instrumentals labeled "experiments," all with the static of rock 'n' roll in the mix. With an 8-bit tongue in cheek this continued, and along the way the trio built what amounted to a career. Thrill Jockey thinks so, anyway; Trans Am's longtime home, the venerable Chicago label issued a double live album last year (the vinyl's gone, but the download's still kicking) and will officially drop Thing, the band's ninth full-length, a few days after this gig. With Nice Nice.
