Just as his power-pop ditty Code Monkey might suggest, Jonathan Coulton is a man of similarly modest accord, best known for three things: 1) performing Baby Got Back as a brooding, finger-picked operetta; 2) sporting aviator hats and impressively dense facial hair; and 3) serving as benevolent straight man to rhapsodic comedian John Hodgman (of the Daily Show and Mac commercial fame). The latter is particularly entertaining, as it involves the deadpan Hodgman harassing Coulton across multiple media (including one allegation of caticide in his brilliant book The Areas of My Expertise). But Coulton brings his own fascinating, droll talent to his solo singer-songwriter act. Think They Might Be Giants, with more erudition, or Weird Al Yankovic, with less cheese . . . or both, with no cats. With Paul + Storm.
