Dir. So Yong Kim (2008). Kid performers naturally introduce elements of magic and mystery into the most banal of situationsso it is with this made-in-Korea American indie, necessarily affirmative but canny enough to resist overt emotional manipulation. Even when its protags have been abandoned, Treeless Mountain is skillfully unsentimentalbecause of, but also despite, the presence of two irresistible, unself-conscious performers in virtually every scene.
