WALK THE WALK

Now, this is something different. The folks at Elastic City want to involve the public — that’s you — in outdoor art, interacting not only with nature (like scooping dirt in Prospect Park) but sometimes involving passersby (throwing an imaginary ball around Greeley Square). Their goal is “to make the audience active participants in an ongoing poetic exchange with the places we live in and visit.” Eight pieces have been commissioned for the first-ever Elastic City Participatory Walks Festival, each led by the artists themselves. Among the fascinating topics are “Crossing Brooklyn,” by a selection of contemporary Brooklyn-based artists, and Karen Finley’s “Mandala, Reimagining Columbus Circle,” sponsored by the Columbia School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. The 12-day festival also features four unique talks by 20 artists and curators at the Pratt Institute on Sunday.
Mondays-Sundays, noon. Starts: Sept. 26. Continues through Oct. 7, 2014
