The first 20 minutes, transporting us back to the world of Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, are sublime, but the real miracle is that the standard Disney tropesadorable critters, rampant sentimentality, asexual eroticismhave been burnt to a crisp and redeployed as beacons of hope in a vision of almost unbearably bleakness.
