A quick jaunt by car, train (on weekdays), or chartered bus (on weekends, leaving from Port Authority) gets you from midtown to the Spanish-style campus of Montclair State University, where veteran producer Jedediah Wheeler presents the smartest dance around. Douglas Dunn, who’s been improvising, choreographing, and performing his own work for decades, unveils his new Aubade, which has original music by Steven Taylor and poetry by Anne Waldman. Incomparable filmmaker Charles Atlas provides video, lighting, and costumes, and Dunn’s nine delicious dancers are joined by six student performers from MSU. Christopher Williams, astonishing changeling sensualist, plays a central trickster role.
Mondays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 24. Continues through Feb. 1, 2014
