Hey there, cool, artsy parents! Wanna know how you get your kids interested in avant-garde performance art? Start by taking them to The Kitchen Block Party, a neighborhood street fair presented by the multidisciplinary performance and exhibition space the Kitchen in Chelsea, in which professional artists will do their own imaginative take on carnival standards like face-painting, cookie-decorating, puppet-making, mask-making, collaborative sculpture, and temporary tattoos. Workshops include an interactive Diva Dutch double-dutch jump rope with Aisha Cousins and drumming lessons by Olumide, plus installations, DJs, and a range of live performances by the Hamana Djembe Orchestra, a Shim Sham Tap Jam Session with Joseph Webb, and more on the main stage.
