A few years back, White Magic were a Brooklyn band par excellence: melodic yet driving, playful and haunting. As singer/pianist Mira Billotte stripped the band down to just herself and Doug Shaw, they grew more inscrutable and intermittent in live performances before disappearing from the borough completely. Apparently holed up playing and recording in London these days, White Magic returns to show off some new tricks, one of which is Shaw's Highlife band with Billotte, emphasizing their latent and lilting Afropop influences. With Eric Copeland of Black Dice.
