Why?+Owen Weaver+Flexible Trio
Cincinatti's Why? might have the worst indie rock band name since Dog Day, and yet their just-released Eskimo Snow earns them another title: The best singer who can't really sing. Listen as front man Yoni Wolf attempts a murky howl on single "This Blackest Purse"the schmuck to Shakira's she-wolf, he admits to wearing "my ex-girlfriend's dead boyfriend's boxers." With a deadbeat charm akin to a more experimental Ben Folds, it's no wonder Wolf calls Why?s latest "really the least hip-hop out of anything I've ever been involved with." With percussionist Owen Weaver and jazz composers Flexible Trio (select members will perform "1+1" by Phillip Glass).
