WILD N' OUT
After growing up on Staten Island and attending the borough’s Michael J. Petrides School, Tristan Wilds quickly went from being Cold Case and Law & Order bit player to student in Ryan Gosling’s Half Nelson schoolroom to netting a regular role as Michael Lee in HBO’s The Wire. These days, the 24-year-old is best known — at least in his hometown — for the r&b he performs as Mack Wilds. Over the summer, his “Own It” got play on local institutions like Hot 97 and Video Music Box, and in September, New York: A Love Story, his ’90s-indebted, alaam Remi–produced debut LP, exceeded the hype around it. Last week, it picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, and tonight, Wilds celebrates at S.O.B.’s.
