Three cheers for Girls Write Now, a New York Citybased writing program for under-served teenage girls, which Michelle Obama and the Presidents Committee on the Arts and Humanities recently recognized as one of the top 15 after-school programs in the country. To keep the program going strong, Wrrrrrock On 2010 is a benefit to raise funds and awareness about the organizations goalsmainly, that every one of their students go to college. Local noise rockers Japanther and the pop-punk teenage-girl trio Care Bears on Fire provide the tunes; Joshua Mohr, author of Termite Parade, emcees the evening, which is sponsored by indie book publishers including Tin House, Two Dollar Radio, and Seven Stories Press.
