It’s tempting to just list a series of adjectives when someone asks, “Who’s Yann Tiersen?” but to save time I usually stick with, “He did the Amelie soundtrack.” That being said, it’s unfair to Tiersen’s expansive repertoire to leave it at that: Whatever instrument he’s behind, and whoever collaborates with him, Tiersen consistently delivers beautifully daring compositions that don’t lose poignancy on their first, second, or fortieth listen. Seeing him live, his music is even more compelling.
