Scream Gems

by

Two decades ago, when
the Mudd Club and Danceteria
and Club 57 ruled the night
the vintage emporium Screaming Mimi’s burst upon the retail
scene. Now the sons and daughters of Mimi’s original patrons prowl its comfy aisles on Lafayette Street, searching
for those same patchwork
platforms and beat-up boas that their parents once loved. To celebrate its 20th anniversary,
the shop recently threw a
party at Harmony Palace in Chinatown, with a guest list
that spanned three generations
of downtown hipsters.
