The Parsons Fashion Critics Awards Benefit late last month honored both Stanley Marcus, the 94-year-old chairman emeritus of the
Neiman Marcus empire, and the graduating class of Parsons, whose fondest collective dream is to land a design in the local Neimans. “Without the inspiration of clothes that enhance women and make men handsome, the whole desire to buy clothes can be shifted to paintings or anything else,” warned the tough-talking nonagenarian in his keynote speech. Fifteen minutes later, the “inspiration of clothes” was everywhere in evidence as models swept down the runway clad in the senior class’s stellar creations.
