Grand Slam

Those unsung heroes
and heroines of the
fashion wars, the stylists, came into their own
a few Sundays ago,
when the Style Slam
held its second annual Orchard Street
extravaganza. Instead
of showcasing the work of designers, the event turns stylists loose on Lower East Side shops— from 100-year-old
Ludlow Street
to two-week-old
arrivistes— where they borrow finery, put it
together (or take it apart) in their own inimitable ways, and send the
results sailing down
the runway.
