Are there jobs that people are too old to do? You can’t be a garbageman and be 80, or 15, for that matter. At 55, the age when the brain starts to de- teriorate, a person can be too old to work for an airline, in law enforcement, or for the military.

Should people be forced to retire? You should retire at 60, and if you still have to work, you didn’t plan right.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? No, but I was fired once for being a man. Management told me as diplomatically as possible that they fired me because I wasn’t going to “arouse” them.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? Jobs that require physical labor should be done by younger people. For nonphysical work, your age shouldn’t make a difference.

Should people be forced to retire? Yes, at 60. By then you’re sick and tired of working.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? No, but there’s still time yet. Age has a different meaning here. In India people regularly work past the age of 70.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? The mind starts to go after 40. On the other hand, I’d rather be operated on by a doctor who’s older because he has more experience. Age doesn’t matter in medicine because doctors take certain things to keep themselves awake in the operating room.

Should people be forced to retire? No, because people like to stay busy.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? Not because of my age but because I’m Hispanic. I once called a complaint hot line and practically overnight, the company where I work handed out sheets on what to do if you’re a victim of prejudice.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? Some older people are so desperate for jobs that they’ll do work they’re not strong enough for. They take work away from young people.

Should people be forced to retire? Sixty-five is a meaningless number if you’re the best person for the job. My mother is 81 and still moving furniture around the apartment.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? No, but I was told I was overqualified because I had two years of college.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? Heavy-duty stuff. Even a big man can be too old for construction.

Should people be forced to retire? No, because some people need to work to be happy.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? No, because I’ve never actually worked a job. I’m trying to get a secretarial degree, but I have a mental illness that I’m afraid people would discriminate against me for once I become employed.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? If you can prove you’re fit to work, why should you stop? If a 75-year-old pilot took the same test as a 25-year-old and passed it, who cares who flies the plane?

Should people be forced to retire? No, they should make that decision themselves.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? Yes, and also on the basis of gender, but I was too naive to know that I should protest it.

Are there jobs that people are too old to do? My father’s 76 and he can do the work of a 21-year-old. I just watched him pick up a washing machine that two young guys said was too heavy to move.

Should people be forced to retire? At 65, people should be offered the option of retiring.

Have you ever been discriminated against on the basis of age? When I was 17, somebody got me a job at Stern’s. When the manager found out how old I was and that I had a baby, she wanted to fire me. She told me later that it was because her own son, who was 22, was very lazy. I proved her wrong by working there for 16 months.
