Why brave the nightclub zoo when you can sit, have some coffee, drink a beer, shop for records, and listen to Cristian Vogel all at the same time in the same place? The fine folks at Halcyon host yet another fabulous night of impossibly good music on their impossibly good sound system with Undercity. Vogel’s funky techno workouts might be a little amped for the usual diet of experimental and chilled-out music, but should make for an energizing Sunday night romp just the same. If you are in the mood for big-time superclub bizness, catch him the day before at the Limelight. Sunday @ 7, Halcyon, 227 Smith St, Bklyn, 718-260-WAXY; Saturday @ 10, Limelight, 660 Sixth Ave, 807-7780.
Superstar rave promoters Stuck On Earth bring their winning lineups to clubland with Formula Fridaze. Aided by Digital Domain, the grand opening features house legends Felix Da House Cat and Roy Davis Jr.—whose straight-up soulful four-to-the-floor cuts can be found on labels like Junior Boys Own, Ministry of Sound, Strictly Rhythm, and Nuphonic (you getting the picture?). They are joined by residents Alan Sax and Chris Love, plus Evil Dee and Butta L in the chapel spinning reggae, hip-hop, and old-school styles. Friday @ 10, Limelight, 660 Sixth Ave, 807-7780.
My favorite magazine hacks over at Flyer host another one of their monthly Mile High Club bashes, coercing Matador’s DJ Twitch all the way from the U.K. to bestow upon the unsuspecting masses his brand of spaced-out breaks and beats. Kinda IDM, except you can dance if you want to. Expect decadence and naughtiness, which, I believe, is the Flyer folks’ unofficial motto. DJ Twitch, Thursday @ 10, Fun, 130 Madison St, at Pike St, 964-0303.
