With three events to choose from this Friday night, you’re likely to be spending more money on cab fare than on cover charges or drinks. But you can’t complain of having nothing to do. The Foundation crew is back in action, but this time our favorite technophiles are bringing some deep, twisted Chicago house for your listening pleasure. Appropriately dubbing the night Chic, resident jock and Foundation member Kimyon hosts two of the ladies from Chicago’s badass all-girl collective Superjane (which also includes the up-and-coming DJ Heather). DJs Dayhota and Colette have established themselves as rock-solid performers, in the tradition of fellow Chicagoan Derrick Carter, with flawless mixing of equally flawless hard and funky house music. And if you’re lucky, Colette, who possesses the voice of an angel, will get on the mic and sing over her and Dayhota’s set. I’d like to see Mr. Derrick “I mix with three decks” Carter do that! Kimyon and Rich Bourque open. Friday @ 10, Centro-fly, 45 W 21st, 627-7770.
The Plastik one returns with his old Plus 8 sidekick for Relief. Second-generation Detroit techno vanguards Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva return to the city’s premier superclub to celebrate the recently released triple-CD Plus 8 Classics series (lovingly prepared for those of you who were too off your head the first time around). Acquaviva’s rich, rounded sound (more house than techno) is a nice complement to Hawtin’s unrelenting four-to-the-floor minimalism. In other words, a little something for everyone. Friday @ 11, Twilo, 530 W 27th, 268-1600.
My favorite Brooklyn weekly, Bang the Party, celebrates Groundhog Day with its reliable deep-house resident jock, E-Man, and special guest Mike LaBirt of New Generation. While The Party is going off upstairs, don’t forget to check out the downstairs, where superfly DJ Mr. Bill Morris spins old school r&b, funk, and house classics. Check out the red telephone! Friday @ 11, Frank’s Lounge, 660 Fulton, Bklyn, 718-625-9339.
New party alert: Techno Slut, with DJs/music journos Treeboy, Sarah Jane Smith, Lady Day, and Jazzbo spinning on the brand-new and improved sound system at Solas. This week’s super-special guest is the ever fabulous DJ Silver. Wednesdays @ 10, Solas, 232 E 9th, 375-0297.
