If Richie Hawtin’s birthday bash last month was any indication, the Paddlewheel Queen might be overturned by the crazed dancers on board during his set for the Matter/:Form boat party. Last year’s party with Hawtin spinning (coincidentally held on my birthday: Richie, do you take requests?) was one of the best in the summer. With the equally impressive DJ Magda opening, I hope we get shipwrecked. Sunday @ 7, Paddlewheel Queen, E 23rd and East River,

The legendary deep-house affair Bang the Party is turning five. E-Man, Jon Cutler, Joey Llanos (of Paradise Garage fame), and Kenny Carpenter perform at the party’s new venue, Opaline—which might lack charm compared to Frank’s Lounge in Fort Greene—a good space, with high ceilings, a decent sound system, and a real dancefloor (not some five-by-five-foot corner wedged between tables). Oh yeah, open bar from 10 to midnight! Friday @ 10, Opaline, 85 Ave A, 726-1322.

New fans of the Bollywood phenomenon can join the old-school devotees for Basement Bhangra. DJ Rekha, the woman in charge of the festivities, expertly weaves South Asian music with techno and hip-hop. Her sound—and the party—are unique. Thursday @ 7, SOB’s, 204 Varick, 243-4940.

Start off the weekend with fun in the sun, listening to minimal techno from San Fran’s Twerk (of Force Inc.). Local deep-house DJ Joeski and Philly’s Rob Paine (and his Solomonic Sound System) join him for the ongoing “Warm Up” series. Saturday @ 3, P.S.1, 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, Queens, 718-784-2084.
