It’s ghosts and ghouls time—which means there are a number of parties with really creative names, like Masquerade Ball and TRANCEsylvania. And, surprise, all of them encourage you to dress up like a vampire. One notable event—which is part of CMJ—is Devil’s Night, brought to you by Ghostly International, and features one DJ Hell on the decks. Also playing with the dark electro master are Midwest Product, Dabrye (both live), Matthew Dear (live/DJ), Tadd Mullinix as James Cotton (DJ), and Kill Memory Crash. Wednesday @ 10, Water Street Bar, 66 Water, DUMBO, Bklyn, 718-625-9352.
On Halloween day, protest the RAVE Act and listen to the sounds of Afrika Bambaata, Grandwizzard Theodore, and Frankie Bones at the same time. Thursday @ 2, City Hall Park, Bway btwn Chambers & Barclay, www.blackkat.org. On Halloween night proper, head down to the second annual Motherfucker fest. Their parties are always fun, and I’m sure the fashion-forward crowd will outdo itself tonight. With DJs David Pianka, Michael T., Justine D., and Carrie Bomb spinning rawk, punk, electro, new wave, Brit pop, and whatever else they see fit. Thursday @ 10, Club New York, 252 W 43rd, 997-9510.
Househeads will be happy to know that Little Louie Vega is coming out of hiding for Dance Ritual’s Masquerade—an all-night costume party and jam session. Thursday @ 10, Shelter, 20 W 39th, 718-446-8980, www.danceritualnyc.com. And old-school goths, fetish freaks, and punkers will delight in the return of Click & Drag and Jackie 60 for one evening only. The Witching Hour, if you couldn’t guess by the title, is a tribute to Anne Rice, and clubgoers are encouraged to dress as their favorite Anne Rice character (Lestat, anyone?). Jackie 60 regulars Johnny Dynell, Chi Chi Valenti, Hattie Hathaway, and more will be on hand for the festivities. Thursday @ 11, CBGB’s Gallery & Downstairs Lounge, 313 Bowery, 677-0455.
