A boat party in the middle of winter? Seems a bit insane, but the Matter:/Form boys sweeten the deal: Heated dancefloors, some free booze if you get there “early,” and—oh yeah—killer DJs Layo & Bushwacka. If you can deal with being stranded for four hours with drunken revelers and a buncha booze, then why not bundle up and boogie onboard? Saturday @ 11, Paddlewheel Queen, 23rd and the East River (FDR Drive), 539-1203.

Aphasic is the only party in town dedicated to live techno, and in its short life has already had a slew of esteemed minimal techno producers as guests. This week is no different with Boston’s Fred Giannelli, a/k/a Kooky Scientist, displaying his wares. Those who are familiar with Giannelli’s smooth, austere techno might be surprised to learn that the producer was once a member of the influential industrial act Psychic TV. He’s followed the path of modern techno since then—recording for Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 label and eventually starting his own imprint, Telepathic. Wednesday @ 10, Liquids, 266 E 10th, 677-1717.

Carl Craig and King Britt, two producers with a soft spot for jazz and funk, join forces for a special gig. Craig’s a second-wave Detroit techno DJ who dabbled in experimental jazz and fusion with Innerzone Orcherstra, while King’s Philly funk to the bone. They favor completely different musical styles, but their laid-back grooves complement each other. Wednesday @ 10, Shine, 285 W Bway, 941-0900.
