With Body & Soul gone, there’s been a huge gap in the early-Sunday party circuit. But former B&S DJ Danny Krivit has helped fill the hole with the 718 Sessions, which, like his former gig, starts at 6 and ends early enough for clubbers to get a good night’s sleep. This week he spins deep-house love with Jeannie Hopper of WBAI’s Liquid Sound Lounge show. Sunday @ 6, Water Street Bar, 66 Water, DUMBO, Bklyn, 718-625-9352.
The Metro Area boys are finally starting to get some recognition locally—even though, like many other New York artists, they’ve gotten props overseas. While they are fine DJs, the reason everyone gets so hot and bothered about Darshan Jesrani and Morgan Geist is their wicked tracks, and so a live set is a welcome post-Xmas treat. Even better, it’s in a nice venue, not a warehouse or a dungeon basement somewhere in Brooklyn. Word. Friday @ 7:30 & 9:30, Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette, 239-6200.
There’s a new electro party in town—as if we really needed another one. But this one promises to be a little different, featuring two of the old-school electro players—Kurtis Mantronix and Afrika Bambaataa—in the first two installments of the monthly party called NegroClash (to be held on the third Thursday), and weekly residents DJ Language, Duane, and Lindsey. Mantronix plays the first jam. The press release is quite amusing for those old enough to remember that mullets are bad and those frilly tops look ridiculous. “NegroClash is taking back Electro! The current ‘Electro’ revival has really been more about an ironic take on [the] 1980s. NegroClash plays Marshall Jefferson, Stevie Wonder, Cybotron, Derrick May, Miles Davis, Kraftwerk, Warp 9, Zapp, Jonzun Crew, Man Parrish.” No W.I.T., no Fischerspooner, and no Peaches. Can I get an amen? Thursday @ 10, APT, 419 W 13th, 414-4245.
