Since things are usually quiet around these parts after New Year’s, I’m afraid the pickings are slim, but there is good news in the form of two parties that start and end early—they used to call them tea parties back in the day.

Those of you not suffering from tremendous New Year’s Eve hangovers—or those who still happen to be up partying—can head over to a special deep-house jam in Brooklyn. The double bill, which features Body & Soul’s Danny Krivit and those white-hot boys from Metro Area—is a surefire way to get the year off to a great start. Like the old B & S jams, the event starts in the early evening and continues to a respectable hour so that you can wake up bright and early for work the next morning. Plus, it’s easy on the wallet—only 12 bucks for a soothing night of quality New York house music. Wednesday @ 6, Water Street Bar, 66 Water, DUMBO, Bklyn, 718-625-9352.

Another party in the vein of the defunct Body & Soul makes its debut this week at—surprise—the same venue where the much missed weekly spent many years. The new event, called Love From NYC, features New York stalwarts Tedd Patterson and Matthias “Matty” Heilbronn. It remains to be seen if the two house jocks can drum up a following as dedicated and faithful as the former residents. And like B & S, “It’s an afternoon thing!” Sunday @ 4, Arc, 6 Hubert, 226-9212.
