My name is Tricia Romano and I am a technoholic. Yes, it’s true. I have no imagination and will cover only minimal techno, except when I write about Detroit’s techno or techno disguised as house music—otherwise known as micro house. On with it then: Kompakt, yes, a minimal-techno label, is the star of this installment of Other Music’s monthly series, OTHER MUSIC PRESENTS . . . The night’s spinners are Reinhard Voigt and Michael Mayer. They will bruise your ears with beautiful beats. Promise.

Tuesday @ 9, APT, 419 W 13th, 212.414.4245

You could stretch it and call Layo & Bushwacka! house, but what they really are, is TECH house. Again we have a case of techno disguising itself as house music. Seriously, L & B spin luscious, hard sets while getting spacey and funky at the same time. The MATTER/:FORM crew makes it all possible and puts its boy wonder, Francis Harris, to work as the night’s opening DJ.

Saturday @ 10, Centro-Fly, 45 W 21st, 212.627.7770

The only time I give up my techno jones is when it’s for a noble cause. This week it’s a noble cause: getting George W. Bush the hell out of office. Colin Nagy a/k/a Amphetamine Cash hosts and spins vs. Nick Catchdubs at GLASS HOUSE, a benefit jam for moveon.org, the grassroots political group after my own heart. DJs James Friedman (of Output/DFA), Alison Tara, K.Briedrick, and Lauren Flax offer their services to the cause. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Thursday @ 9, Open Air, 121 St Marks Pl, 212.979.1459

Also at Open Air: Support your local, hardworking electronic-music producers. All original material will be heard from a wide range of artists at IAMNY, including Todd Sines, Dinesh, and Sean B, among many others. Saturday @ 10.
