Do you ever long to recapture that childhood feeling of being trapped in a car with your family three hours after the air conditioner’s conked out on a sweltering summer day? Following her grandfather’s death, Kate Collins (Zooey Deschanel) travels with her sad-sack father to the family’s Rhode Island house, where the quirky relatives just keep on coming. If the recurring gag about Grandma’s suicide attempts doesn’t have you rolling in the aisles, there’s always the domineering aunt whose husband sits at the kiddie table, the identical-twin cousins who sent their mother packing with a birthday request for an “erotic cheesecake,” and Dad’s inevitable revelation that those “movies” featuring Kate’s late actress mother weren’t exactly fit for prime time.
