Wondering what it’s going to be like encountering Republican matrons on the inner-city streets of Cleveland, hostile territory in more ways than one. I think back to an interview I did with an Arkansas lady at the Republican Convention this September, where midtown was so locked down that you couldn’t travel down many streets unless you were a delegate in a motorcoach.
“I almost succumbed to the threat. That the terrorists would do something.”
(She’s explaining how she almost didn’t come to New York.)
“But I’m glad I didn’t let them win. I even took a cab ride tonight!”
She is asked if she plans to take the subway next.
“No way! I would never do that!”
