On Common Cause‘s afternoon Election Briefing call, director Chelle Pingree reported calls from voters saying they had requested absentee ballots but not received them. When they showed up to polling places records showed they had already voted. A caller from Air America Radio said she had spoken firsthand with a voter who had this experience, and somehow learned that her absentee ballot had been cast for Bush.
Overall the Common Cause report was notable for the lack of major problems, considering the possibilities. Long lines were the most common complaint.
