What is a “special inspector”? According to the Cleveland News-Herald article “More voter registrations than expected are pouring in,” this is a typical election year post at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. They ordinarily hire 200 per election. This election they hired over 700. Their job is to make sure voters are directed to the correct polling place and–get this!–make sure that campaigning candidates don’t get out of hand.
This year, at the last minute, apparently a few more slots opened up. Worth investigating: whether these extra slots were budgeted for in advance. One would think this would be a matter of public record.
