We’re still eagerly awaiting Mariah Carey’s lingerie line, which was slated for a launch soon after the release of her album, The Emancipation of Mimi. We just wonder if it’ll be in the style of the good ol’ trashy Mariah we know and love, or a more yawn-worthy Vogue-sanctioned Mimi. The embattled singer, currently attempting to remake her skanky look of yore under the tutelage of Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley, has in the past admitted to being a total lingerie queen, with a whole color-organized wardrobe devoted to her delicate underthings alone. Word has it that Carey gave her friends a little sneakie peek of the line last Christmas, when she handed out real diamond-encrusted stockings, priced at roughly £15,000 (now, $27,359.27) a pair. The lingerie line will be called “Mariah Kiss Kiss,” even though Mariah dubbed herself “Mimi” on the album, which she has said celebrates “the fact that I’ve grown into a person and artist who no longer feels imprisoned by my insecurities or compelled to try and live up to someone else’s vision of ‘Mariah Carey.’ I now feel I can honestly say ‘this is me, the real me, take it or leave it.’ For the first time in my life, I feel free and unashamed to be who I really am.”
You just can’t make this shit up.
