Famous rockers The Doors make headlines after saying the word “higher” live on The Ed Sullivan Show. Sullivan had requested the group to change the “Light My Fire” song-lyrics from “Girl we couldn’t get much higher” to “Girl we couldn’t get much better” because of a perceived reference to drugs. The group agrees, but lead singer Jim Morrison sings the original lyrics anyway. Ed Sullivan is so furious he refuses to shake hands with the group and never invites them back.
