“Just Leave the Lamb by the Door”


Cheese Daddy Terrance Brennan has long been canoodling with Fresh Direct—the website has been selling his magical cave mold for years. But now they’ve taken it to the next level—an attempt at gourmet TV dinners.

On October 5, FD launched a new line of microwavable meals, “Fresh Dining with Terrance Brennan.” The eight dishes are Picholine-esque (Brennan is chef-owner of the midtown Mediterranean) and range from $9.99—$16.99 (single servings).

Sampling had to be done.

I should admit, I was skeptical of packaged, microwaved meat, but to my surprise, the Boneless Rack of Lamb with Goat Cheese Orzo and Ratatouille” was tasty and un-weirdly textured. It did not, however, resemble the photo. Or a rack of lamb. It was more like one teeny tiny little piece of lamb. (I don’t believe in that “palm of your hand” bullarky.)

The Winter Squash Ravioli with Swiss Chard & Roasted Vegetables ($9.99) was swimming in oil and the veggies were chewy.

In conclusion, a giant step forward for the TV Dinner, but these are probably best suited to a wealthy bachelor workaholic who needs portion control assistance if he’s ever going to get a woman in the kitchen.

Not that I didn’t compulsively inhale the entire contents of both plastic dishes.
