For this edition of Recipe Tester, and the next few as well, we’re thinking specifically of gift-worthy cookbooks. Dorie Greenspan’s new baking book certainly fits the bill, and the perfect “Cocoa-Nana Bread” we are currently devouring seals the deal.
Baking: From My Home to Yours is big and beautiful (over 100 color photos that could make you drool all over the fancy paper), but functional too. Greenspan offers 300 recipes that are actually written in real sentences. There is humor and reassurance in the head notes (“In my never-ending quest to make chocolate as acceptable as porridge at the breakfast tale, I offer this coal-dark morning loaf) and in the method itself (“the batter may look a little curdled—it’s okay).
These descriptive directions make the book ideal for beginner-level bakers but the range of recipes would appeal to anyone.
Baking: From My Home to Yours is priced at $40, but available online for $24.
