When Eye slapped up the Nielsen ratings from last year right before the end of 2006, she was floored by the stratsopheric ratings of the American Idol juggernaut (most-watched show of 2006). In 2007, the happy continues. Today Hollywood Reporter talks about the ratings whopper that was American Idol’s season 6 premiere last night: 37.3 million people tuned in. Of all the people watching television last night FORTY PERCENT OF THEM were tuned into ‘Idol’. It was the second-best telecast since Idol’s premiere in 2002, Reporter claims. (The big’un was the Clay Aiken vs. Ruben Studdard sing-off in 2003.) Small wonder the show is trying to brand out into ice cream and amusement parks.

Someone please explain the ‘American Idol’ mystery to Eye. This ain’t no ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
