Didn’t much care for The Scene, now finishing its run at Second Stage. Too formulaic by half. Though will happily confess an eternal soft spot for Christopher Evan Welch and an especial appreciation for how seamlessly the set moved in and out. Damning with faint praise? Perhaps, but ever since a formative experience in the bowels of an 18thC Swedish theater, amid all the ropes and wheels and pulleys, I have great appreciation for the mechanics of the scene change.
The purple dress Patricia Heaton wears in the last act, that was nice, too.
