Village Yokocho, the beloved and cheap izakaya you may have blindly walked through on your way to Angel’s Share, is featuring a delectable treat for fat-lovers. On the special menu, you’ll find Scottish fatty salmon sashimi ($7), which turns out to be six thick pieces of salmon belly (i.e., the toro of salmon).
The taste is clean and sweet and the texture buttery, and if you have any sense at all, you won’t share. The salmon toro is available whenever the restaurant can get it, which is usually Tuesday and Friday. We had it last night, but sometimes by Wednesday it’s sold out.
