Marcus Samuelsson, whose African cookbook, The Soul of a New Cuisine: A Discovery of the Foods and Flavors of Africa, won the James Beard Award for International Cookbook of the year, is looking for a general manager for his “African-inspired” restaurant, Merkato. The restaurant will have 175 seats and will be in the Meatpacking District. It is set to open in September. “Addis Merkato” is the name of Africa’s biggest open-air market, located in Ethiopia, where Samuelsson was born.
Tasca is getting set to open for brunch, and they’re looking for “strong line cooks.”
A new Italian place, Accademia Di Vino, is opening on the Upper East and is holding open calls for all front- and back- of house positions.
