Fisherman’s Burlesque: What a Catch!
While we usually reserve this space for covering the (ahem) legitimate theater, we do have a lingering fondness for the illegitimate sort. And nowhere are there currently more illegitimate goings on than at Coney Island, during the Thursday and Friday Burlesque at the Beach events. Naughty, bawdy, and often very silly, these shows feature a bevy of underclad girls and boys and invariably conclude with a tribute to an earlier form of Brooklyn Burlesque, Tirza’s Wine Bath, in which several performers loll in a kiddie pool and douse themselves with the finest hooch that comes in a jug. A debauched delight. A bonus: The shows don’t start until the boardwalk fireworks have concluded.
