With online “stores” popping up every other second and claiming to have the best deal, even browsing has become a hassle. The Brooklyn Homeshow seeks to get the intimacy and spontaneity back into shopping by hosting an event that has artists selling directly to consumers—and it all takes place in someone’s apartment! (How much more DIY can you get?) The designers and crafters will be selling natural soaps, crocheted hats and scarves, invitations, jewelry, screen-printed clothes, and more. The artists are all part of the online marketplace Etsy, but instead of buying this stuff from them through the Internet and forking over your credit-card digits, at the Brooklyn Homeshow you can at least bargain for a better price. So what’s the return policy? Hmm . . . well, at least you know where they live.
