Juanes: Does ‘influential’ have to mean ‘boring’?
Madison Square Garden
Thursday, March 6
Last night at Madison Square Garden, Juanes kicked off his La VIDA World Tour to a horde of screaming Latinos. The 90-minute set touched on couple of ballads from his latest record La Vida…Es un Ratico and some favorites from his breakthrough albums, Un Dia Normal and Mi Sangre. But the Colombian hottie’s show really got good when the 35-year-old sang the dance-pop tunes “La Camisa Negra,” and “Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor.” Then it ended, all too soon.
During the concert, I found myself longing for the days when Juanes was opening up for the Argentinean rock en español band, Enanitos Verdes. Back then, he had more elusive, mysterious edge about him. But I guess you stop being enigmatic when TIME Magazine anoints you one of the world’s “Most 100 Influential People.” Too bad.
