Get a glimpse of the Middle East and South Asia beyond the usual headlines with the New York Arab & South Asian Film Festival. The festival features the latest docs, features, and shorts that expound on these countries and their rich histories, regional interconnectedness, and the contemporary issues they face. One of tonight’s features, Have You Another Apple?, is the comedic tale of an evil ruler who terrorizes his nameless Middle Eastern land with the help of a scythe-wielding band of marauding warriors on horseback (and motorcycle). The film’s hero is an improbably fat and clumsy bald guy whose main concern is his next meal. He eventually teams up with a far more capable femme fatale and, together, they encourage their snoozy countrymen to make a stand. (Oh, if only life could imitate art in these parts!)
