Shouldn’t a good reporter get a well-reported obit? Well, Associated Press’s John Roderick apparently didn’t—not even from his own employer! The AP obit for Roderick mentions his adopted son and even the adopted son’s wife, but it studiously leaves out any reference to Roderick’s own sexuality. That might be a bit clearer in a Guardian obit for the guy, which talks about how he would spend time in restaurants “commenting on the comeliness of a particular waiter.” Unless they meant “female waiter,” I think that says it all. In any case, I hereby officially give the Voice permission to run an obit of me that flat-out says I’m a queer. But not until I die, OK?
