For four days, art lovers will converge on the streets between Chelsea’s west end and Pier 94 for The Armory Show and The Bridge Art Fair, in which New York gallery owners are joined by their global peers to acquaint themselves with what’s fresh. Some stuff that caught our interest: work by Mary Heilmann and John Waters, commissioned to “define the image of the Armory Show”; a film by Matthew Buckingham about the history of the Hudson River, to be shown on a water taxi (free!); the Bridge Art Fair’s focus on Asian art (and a special performance by Amanda Lepore tonight at 7:30 p.m.); and the unconventional art displayed in an unconventional space (in this case, the grounds of the now-extinct club the Tunnel). The Bridge Art Fair: 5 to 10, noon Friday through Sunday, the Waterfront Building, 222 Twelfth Avenue at 27th Street
