Dirty on Purpose once did a convincing voice-of-a-generation shtick: 2006’s Hallelujah Sirens had a certain strain of early-twenties nostalgia down cold. But maybe they paid too much attention to all those MBV and JAMC comparisons Sirens picked up? Their newer stuff—last year’s Like Bees, this year’s Dead Volcanoes—does the Psychocandy thing fine, but who’s gonna tell all of Brooklyn’s disaffected youth what comes next now?
